Professional Learning Network
Through my short journey I have joined 5 networks to guide me in my professional career.
- 1. Edutopia- " Edutopia is a trusted source shining a spotlight on what works in education. We show people how they can adopt or adapt best practices, and we tell stories of innovation and continuous learning in the real world."
- 2.I have joined a Teams group for this course with other classmates which includes Audrey M Parcell, Rebecca C Chang, Joshua Kolawole, Jessalyn. Sanchez, Maria I. Montemayor, Kayla Miller, Sara-Ann E Oro Santana, and Anna B Gonzalez. We share our assignments for feedback and ask questions when we are confused or missing something that we think could be important. Everyone is very kind and helpful and we all want each other to succeed.
- 3.I also use Pinterest for ideas that I may use in the classroom. There are a vast number of resources on this site including lesson plans, and boards.
- 4.I am also a member of the Southeast Texas Dental Hygiene Association on Facebook-This is for my dental hygiene certification that I continue to keep for my license.
- 5.American Dental Hygiene Association- Again this is for my dental hygiene license.
The last two are not for my k-12 education background, although I have taught dental hygiene as an adjunct faculty member up at LIT, and I continue to keep my license up. These help me keep up with the latest changes in laws and regulations, as well as keeping current with new trends and CE courses available.
Since I posted about my networks, I have also become a member of Google Applied Digital Skills and Google Educations. One of my other classmates posted about these networks and after doing some research I felt they would be good collaboration tools. I like that I can collaborate with other educators and can use a ready-made curriculum to help me teach digital skills to my students. As well as sharing with other educators about what is and is not working in the classroom.
These networks help me grow as a professional and keep me up to date with the new trends, and best practices. There is so much information out there and I am trying to keep a growth mindset and continue my goal of lifelong learning. I feel these networks will definitely help me do that. These groups and feedback have helped me look back and correct mistakes and misunderstandings and created a better learning experience. I have also attended several CE and seminars for both education and dental hygiene.
Since I am new to a few of these groups I have not contributed a lot. I love the idea of these learning networks, and being able to share resources and ideas, and ask questions. These are priceless tools and I encourage everyone to join networks for whatever their profession or passion is.
